Why can't I edit documents?

  1. "Viewing" mode

    If you are in "Viewing" mode, you cannot make any changes to the document. Change your settings to Editing and you will be able to edit your document.

  2. Permission to view only in a shared space

    If your permission within a shared space is set as "View", then you cannot make any edits to documents until the owner of the space changes your rights for you.

  3. The document is uploaded as a reference

    1. Documents are files that you work on.

    2. References are files or links that have been added by you to supplement your work.

      References can be viewed in the split-viewer once clicked on.


Make sure to create a document via "Add document" in Home, and choose one of the three options: - Create New - Open from Local - Google Drive
